Darrell Justin Black Candidate
14th District
House of Delegates
My platform and goals for the citizens of Putnam and Mason Counties will be to diligently work to help pass legislation that will ensure:
- Put a priority on the rural areas of both Putnam and Mason Counties which have felt neglected in the past
- Finish Rt. 35 and keep it TOLL FREE
- Build a welcome center/tourism spot in Henderson, WV similar to Tamarack to promote WV crafts, businesses, and tourism
- Better and safer roads and highways
- Capitalize on Rt 35 to take advantage of a more enhanced freeway to attract and bring more businesses to our counties
- More ATV trails for recreation and hunting experiences for the citizens of both counties
- Tax breaks for local businesses to get started and keep going
- Tort reform (less frivolous lawsuits/caps on damages)
- Protect the sanctity of marriage
- Reduce the drop out rate by establishing alternative class schedules and hours (allow for students with infants, working schedules, poor homelife/safe house type)
- Education in the district is good compared to most of the state, but we can't settle for good--we want excellent--more training for educators, smaller teacher to student ratio, continue with technology integration
- Establish "West Virginia Coal Miner Appreciation Day"
- Fight Cap and Trade
- Family Values
- Pro Life
- Continued support of the PROMISE Scholarship
- Expand the district's farm industry and promote agri-tourism (incorporate the agri-business into county high schools)
- Habitat for Humanity involvement for teenagers with college credit
- Focus and build on historic Putnam and Mason counties to bring the interesting history of these counties to citizens of West Virginia and attract tourists to our counties
- Open McCausland House as a public museum
- Protection of the 2nd Amendment
- Increased and better funding for education and teachers' salaries
- I will work to improve the athletic facilities and educational resources at the rural schools in Putnam and Mason Counties (Buffalo, Hannan, Wahama)
- I will work to get either a State Trooper or Mason Sheriff's Deputy detachment in the Hannan-Ashton area to combat the drug and crime problems in the district.
- I will also work to get a Fire Department in the Hannan-Ashton area to promote a faster response time (currently if a fire occurs the closest Fire Departments are in Apple Grove on Rt. 2 and in Milton which hampers response time)
