Darrell Justin Black
                                     Candidate
                  14th District House of Delegates

On January 9, 2012 I filed to run again for the House of Delegates from the 14th District.

On May 11, 2010, I finished my first primary election.  Although the outcome was not what I had hoped, it was a great experience.  I will be back in 2012 more determined than ever to represent both Putnam and Mason counties.

In February 2010, I completed a week long internship (Frasure-Singleton Internship) with the West Virginia House of Delegates under the guidance of Delegate Jonathan Miller (R - Berkeley County).  I also was a Judith Herdon Fellow interning with State Senator Bob Plymale (D - Wayne County) during the 2011 Legislative Session.  I also was the 4th Senatorial District Campaign Cordinator for Clark Barnes (R - Randolph County)'s 2011 gubernatorial campaign.  This made my desire to serve the citizens of the 14th District even stronger.  I know I can and will make a difference in Charleston for both Putnam and Mason Counties.

I continued my civic duty by serving as a petit juror for Putnam Circuit Court from March to May, 2010.

Original press release:

HURRICANE, WV. - July 6, 2009:

Today, July 6, 2009, marks the 155th anniversary of the first convention of the Republican Party. Therefore, I Darrell Justin Black, find it fitting to announce my candidacy for the West Virginia House of Delegates, 14th District.

I have been a lifelong resident of Putnam County and was born in Charleston, WV. My family has lived in West Virginia before there was even a state of West Virginia. Graduating from Hurricane High School in 2007, I am now a Junior at Marshall University with a double major in political science and history and a minor in geography. I have worked for the state road for the past two summers. I am the only candidate for the 14th District that is a member of the Putnam County Republican Club and am the chairman of the membership committee.

With friends and family in Putnam and Mason Counties I plan to serve citizens in both counties, not just the Teays Valley area.

As your delegate in Charleston my focus will be repairing the dilapidated conditions of our roads and highways to increase the viability of providing safe transportation for our citizens and attract new business that may be looking to relocate to our state.

West Virginia has the highest taxes of any of our neighboring states and as your legislative representative I will tackle the out-of-date tax structure problem and work with my fellow legislators to find a long-overdue solution to ensure West Virginia is competitive

My grandfather was a WWII veteran and I respect the sacrifice and service of american soldiers that for many years have kept our country free. Therefore, I will support any legislation to help returining vererans from Iraq and Afghanistan. "To turn their swords into plowshare" we need to support a GI bill for all West Virginia veterans to be able to attend college after their service

As a son of a teacher, I recognize the gap in funding for classrooms and wages for teachers compared with neighboring states, especially North Carolina. The lure of better wages and classroom support is leading to West Virginia losing most of our recently graduated teachers. As your delegate I will work to give West Virgina teachers the support they desperately need so our children will not be left behind.

Your support and vote are vital to electing a conscientious and capable legislative representative. I welcome your input and ideas and appreciate your support as together we move toward a better state for our citizens now and generations that will follow.
